Meet the Chorus
Welcome! We are a widely recognized, highly regarded mixed chorus
devoted to performing great choral music. With a membership of
approximately 150 dedicated singers, we have been making our contribution
to New York's musical life for over 100 years. Each season we
offer at least three major concerts, two of which are performed
at Carnegie
Hall with a professional orchestra and soloists. Since 1965, we were
led by David Randolph, renowned
conductor, author, radio host, and concert commentator until his death in May, 2010.
On July 1, 2011, the Board of Directors announced the appointment of conductor
Mark Shapiro as the Chorus's new Music Director.
Our repertoire is
drawn from four centuries of challenging choral masterpieces.
All musically qualified persons are invited to audition to
become members of our chorus.
Despite our name, which is taken from the patron saint of music,
we are and always have been completely secular
and independent. We are a not-for-profit organization with
a Board of Directors elected from the singing membership. We are
supported by dues, ticket sales, and gifts.
