Hye Jung Lee

Hye Jung Lee, soprano

Birthplace: Seoul, Korea.

Career highlights: Adele in Die Fledermaus, Giannetta from L'elisir d'amore, Nannetta in Falstaff, Marie in La Fille du Régiment, Zdenka in Arabella at Mannes Opera, Lauretta and Nella in Gianni Schicchi at Seoul National University; Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem and Joseph Haydn’s Paukenmesse with Hochschule für Musik Dresden Carl Maria von Weber Orchestra in Meissen. She received her bachelor of arts degree from Seoul National University, master’s diploma from Hochschule für Musik in Dresden, Germany, and master’s degree from Mannes College of Music. She is currently in the Artist Diploma program at Indiana University.

Awards: 58.ARD International Music Competition prize winner, Career Bridges 2009 Grant Recipient, second prize winner of the fifth Shizuoka International Opera Competition, a winner in the Ferruccio Tagliavini International Music Competition in Austria, and a finalist in The Queen Sonja International Music Competition.

Appearances with The St. Cecilia Chorus: Ms. Lee made her solo debut with The St. Cecilia Chorus and Orchestra in Mozart’s “Great” Mass in C Minor in Carnegie Hall on December 10, 2009.  She will appear with them again on May 22, 2011, singing the Fauré Requiem at the Church of the Heavenly Rest.

Upcoming engagements: Madame Mao from Nixon in China at San Francisco Opera in 2012.
