On November 23, New York City Mayor Rudy Guiliani and 35 members
of The St. Cecilia Chorus lit the outdoor Singing Chorus Tree at
the South Street Seaport, a scant six blocks from Ground Zero at
the World Trade Center. During the next seven weeks the Chorus
gave 19 more performances ot traditional holiday and patriotic
music to thousands of enthusiastic and often emotional listeners.
It was the Chorus's 12th season performing at the celebrated New
York historic site.
One month later at Carnegie Hall, the full 140-member group, under
the direction of David Randolph, performed Bach's Christmas
Oratorio to a near capacity audience. The St. Cecilia Chorus
and Orchestra is a mixed-voice volunteer group that has just celebrated
its 95th anniversary and its 35th season under the direction of
Mr. Randolph.
